Rinaldo R. Taylor letters, 1849-1850.

Correspondence sent by Rinaldo R. Taylor to his wife in Easthampton, Mass., 26 May 1849 - 30 April 1850, describing his journey by steamship and land from New England, by way of Georgia, Louisiana, Panama, and Mexico, to Northern California, and subsequent work looking for gold near San Francisco. Taylor describes activities and other passengers on board the steamships Falcon and Alabama; work conditions of slaves in Louisiana; traveling on foot through Panama; and the hardships of prospecting in northern California.
